The five days Congo lowland gorilla tour and Chimpanzee tour in Nyungwe forest national park take you to in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda. The trip will furnish the best experience to encounter with Rwanda’s chimps and the Lowland gorillas of Congo. The trip first takes you to Nyungwe forest national park in Rwanda for chimpanzee tracking and then to Kahuzi Biega national park in DR Congo.

Day 1: Travel to Nyungwe forest national park
On arrival at the airport in Kiagli, our experienced driver guide will pick you, brief you about the whole trip and then transfer you to Nyungwe forest national park. On the way you will have a chance to view the beautiful Lake Kivu which is the largest lake in Rwanda, it gives such a beautiful background for photo lovers, stop by for pictures and then proceed to the park.
Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and community
Early morning after breakfast, you will head to the park headquarters for a simple briefing and afterwards start your trek for the chimps in Nyungwe forest national park. Chimpanzee trekking involves a simple hike through the thick lush of the forest in your search for the habituated chimps that live up in the trees of this forest. On your trek you will also encounter several primates like the colobus monkeys and baboons. On meeting them, spend one hour with the amazing primates, watching them play with each other on the tree branches and carrying on their daily lives.
Later in the evening, visit the local communities around the park and explore the local cultures of the people of Rwanda. Enjoy the traditional dances and performances and have a taste of the local cuisines as well as experiencing the way of life of the local people here.
Day 3: Transfer to Bukavu in Congo
0n this day you will still have an early breakfast and travel to Cyangugu a cross border to Bukavu in Congo. The six hour drive gives you views of the beautiful sceneries of the rolling hill covered with the green lush of Rwanda. Arrival at the lodge will be in the evening just for check, relaxation, dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Lowland gorilla trekking in Kahuzi Biega national park
After an early morning breakfast, embark on the safari vehicle for a one hour drive to Kahuzi Biega’s headquarters for a short briefing about the rules and regulations of lowland gorilla trekking.
Now enter the jungle to hunt for the giant apes of the forest. Note that Lowland gorillas in Kahuzi Biega national park are not as endangered as the mountain gorillas, they are in much more family groups. Having met the gentle forest giants, have a one hour encounter with them, taking as many photos and watching them play with each other from one tree to another.
After the trek, optionally visit the chimpanzee orphanage center that is located near the park and then return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Departure
Early morning after breakfast, transfer back to Kigali airport for the flight home. That will be the end of the five days safari with us.
